The End of The Summer Paintings

Head Study In Gray - Oil on Canvas, 24"x30"

In the sweltering August I was channeling Eeyore and thinking about immanent Minnesota winter. Gray is a color that nature uses for sadness. It is also an elegant expressive range of values without unnecessary noise of colors. I heard many demands to finish the painting in color. However, Eeyore is consistent and stubborn character.

These small formats (8"x10") are in the constant flow on my easels. Beauty is sometimes concentrated in simple subjects. Small formats are affordable for "Coca Cola Budget" to start a collection of original oils or to solve the gift dilemma for birthdays and holidays.

If you think about small format painting as a poem, these middle size paintings (16"x20") are short stories. There are all elements of the novel there without description of the landscape and war operations.

Ibsen and Trolls - Oil on Canvas, 36"x40"

"Trolling" got a different meaning these days as a form of aggravating on social media. My idea of trolls is bringing us back to Ibsen. The root of the person in in the childhood where growing up eliminates fears. Trolls become silly friends with mischievous bend and humor. Adopt your trolls and have some fun.

My painting classes will start this week in Minnetonka Center of the Arts and two weeks later in Lakeville Center of the Arts. Our Painting Club for my friends starts on September 14th, (Thursday) for six consecutive weeks.
